5 Ways to Enjoy Greek Yogurt

The first time I tried Greek yogurt, I wasn't impressed. Compared to my light, smooth, ultra sweet yogurt cups I was used to, it just wasn't that good. Greek yogurt is thicker, heavier and not as sugary.

Wait, that's a good thing.

Since Greek yogurt is high in protein and lower in sugar than other types of yogurt, I decided to give it another chance. I've learned to love it and now it's on my weekly shopping list.

Here's five ways you can add Greek yogurt to your day too!
  1. Use fruit-flavored Greek yogurt as a dressing on fruit salad.
  2. Make a parfait dessert by layering granola, berries and Greek yogurt in a pretty, clear glass.
  3. Mix seasoning packets or dried herbs with plain Greek yogurt (instead of sour cream) to use as a salad dressing.
  4. Serve kids miniature fruit kebabs (a strawberry and grape threaded on a pretzel stick) and Greek yogurt as a dipping sauce.
  5. Experiment with using Greek yogurt and a splash of lemon juice in lieu of mayonnaise in cold, creamy pasta salads.

  2. I like Greek yogurt better than regular yogurt. When I was in Greece, it was really, really good. That's what turned me on to it. Back in the states, I eat it all the time.

  3. I use plain greek yogurt to replace my sour cream straight up or as a mix as well. I use it a lot in making cookies, muffins and pancakes. It's just a regular part of my kitchen and my cooking repertoire.

  4. We've been eyeing Greek yogurt, but haven't tried it yet. We have, though, been looking for a way to make our own salad dressings and this just might be the ticket...thanks! :)

    1. Yes! Give it a try if you tend to like creamy dressings. You can also make a simple vinaigrette dressing by whisking olive oil with balsamic vinegar (it's kind of sweet). ~Angela

  5. I love Greek yogurt, especially the pineapple kind. Which is strange because I can't eat pineapples otherwise because they burn and leave a read ring around my lips.

  6. I do it like the Greeks do (tzatziki). I mini chop cucumber minus the seeds then add some fresh mint also chopped and a tiny bit of garlic.

    Mix and serve with grilled chicken, pork or lamb if you're a meat eater, if not put it on your potato of eat it along with some chick peas its wonderful.

  7. Mmmm, my favourite stuff!
    I can't stand the garbage that passes for yogurt nowadays. Hopefully the powers that be, don't mess with the greek stuff by making it low fat or diet. *shudder
    I'm making a dessert in a few days that calls for greek yogurt. A fruit salad,yum

  9. My daughter first introduced us to Greek yogurt. It's the only kind she'll eat any more. Dear Husband also started buying it for his lunch at work, and now I buy it by the case for him at Costco. I've used the plain greek yogurt as a substitute for sour cream in a lot of dishes, and haven't been disappointed yet.

  10. I've been trying to eat plain Greek yogurt because I know it's healthier, but the kinds I've bought have a bitter or sour taste that I don't care for.

    Have you got a brand you recommend? Or other ideas to cut the taste but still eat it straight, not as a dressing or sauce?

    1. HI Barbara, I really like Chobani. It's not as pricey as some, the taste is always fresh and the texture is very creamy. I love the passion fruit, blood orange and blueberry flavors. I haven't tried the plain variety yet. Have you tried mixing it with granola, chopped nuts, fresh fruit or shaved coconut? ~Angela

  11. I love Greek yogurt, and never bother buying sweetened yogurt anymore. I sometimes add frozen berries or freezed dried berries to it. I might add a bit of organic cereal to it - makes a great snack. I sometimes use Greek yogurt in place of sour cream for veggie dips and I've even used it on tacos or baked potatoes unbeknownst to my hubby, who loves sour cream with everything. I know it doesn't taste exactly the same, but it has the exact same texture (the full fat yogurt, that is) , I only do that if I've run out of sour cream, though!

  12. I eat a Chobani almost every day, and pomegranate and blood orange are my favorite. I also put plain unsweetened Greek yogurt in my kale smoothies that I make a lot of mornings for breakfast.
