But, what about those weird little mixtures that we somehow stumble upon and learn to adore?
You know, the uncommon food pairings that make your friends and family look away each time you indulge.
I don't think my palate craves too many uncommon food pairings. But, I have received a few odd glances when I:
- Melt cheddar cheese on apple pie
- Add grape jelly and ketchup to homemade baked beans
- Put chopped, fresh tomatoes on scrambled eggs
- Mix peanut butter into vanilla ice cream
Do these sound weird to you? What uncommon food pairings do you enjoy?

As a youngster, I used to love peanut butter with sliced fresh tomato sandwiches. Your idea of tomatoes on scrambled eggs sounds yummy.

DeleteTomatoes on scrambled eggs is just like putting on salsa, or many omlets with the Mexican flare, not odd at all to my way of thinking. I love peanut butter and pickle sandwiches. At home we always made a BLT with peanut better on the toast, first time I order a BLT out, asked them where the peanut better was...I thought it was standard. A-Z

DeleteMy husband would say "an apple pie without cheese is like a kiss without a squeeze". Tomatoes and scrambled eggs is fine in my book. Not the other two though.

Deletegrape jelly and ketchup on baked beans is the only one that strikes me as odd on your list. I like peanut butter with banana slices. Paprika sprinkled on apples. Tartar sauce and french fries. Can't think of others now but there must be more.

DeleteI find peanut butter and jelly a disgusting combo. Must be because I am not American! I don't eat PB, but eat almond butter (not with jelly). I do put jelly on pancakes, however.

DeleteTomato on eggs sounds pretty normal to me....and peanut butter flavored ice cream is available in stores.
ReplyDeleteThe jelly and ketchup (catsup? is there a difference?) is not something I would think of, but a lot of people like that sweet and spicy flavor combination.
Cheese on apple pie would not be my first choice.
But what do I know?
