But, what about those weird little mixtures that we somehow stumble upon and learn to adore?
You know, the uncommon food pairings that make your friends and family look away each time you indulge.
I don't think my palate craves too many uncommon food pairings. But, I have received a few odd glances when I:
- Melt cheddar cheese on apple pie
- Add grape jelly and ketchup to homemade baked beans
- Put chopped, fresh tomatoes on scrambled eggs
- Mix peanut butter into vanilla ice cream
Do these sound weird to you? What uncommon food pairings do you enjoy?

As a youngster, I used to love peanut butter with sliced fresh tomato sandwiches. Your idea of tomatoes on scrambled eggs sounds yummy.

Hmm, peanut butter and tomato. I have never tried it, but since I like both, I might just have to! Fun idea! Happy A-to-Z 2013! ~Angela, Whole Foods Living, http://www.wholefoodsliving.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteWe always put tomatoes on our eggs...it's great stuff and livens up bland eggs.
ReplyDeleteThe other ones, though...I'm not so sure about :)
I'm glad I'm not alone on the eggs thing! Yum! ~Angela
DeleteTomatoes on scrambled eggs is just like putting on salsa, or many omlets with the Mexican flare, not odd at all to my way of thinking. I love peanut butter and pickle sandwiches. At home we always made a BLT with peanut better on the toast, first time I order a BLT out, asked them where the peanut better was...I thought it was standard. A-Z
ReplyDeleteI've never eaten peanut butter and pickles together. Hmmm... I like both but I'm not sure about together! ~Angela
DeleteMy whole family likes tomato on their eggs! They're also really good with some chives and basil baked in a muffin tin!

Ohhhh, thanks for the baked egg idea! ~Angela
DeleteMy brother puts makes egg pizza's does that count?
ReplyDeleteI've heard of breakfast pizza, but does he put it on "regular" pizza?? Weird! ~Angela
DeleteI grew up with cheese on Apple Pie, yum! Visiting from A-Z
ReplyDeleteMe too! I LOVE it! ~Angela
DeleteI love this post and all these combinations!
ReplyDeleteI love PB and bacon sandwiches, and cayenne and cinnamon in sweet potato is good too.
Cool! I'll have to try the cayenne and cinnamon on sweet potatoes. I'll pass on the bacon. I'm a veggie! :) ~Angela
DeleteWe have some very weird combos in my family and I like to experiment with different ingredients. :)
ReplyDeleteGood for you! You never know what will become a favorite! ~Angela
DeleteMy husband would say "an apple pie without cheese is like a kiss without a squeeze". Tomatoes and scrambled eggs is fine in my book. Not the other two though.

I love your husband's quote!! Now I'm craving some steamy apply pie topped with gooey cheddar!! ~Angela
Deletegrape jelly and ketchup on baked beans is the only one that strikes me as odd on your list. I like peanut butter with banana slices. Paprika sprinkled on apples. Tartar sauce and french fries. Can't think of others now but there must be more.
ReplyDeleteHi Jagoda, I actually mix those into the beans. It gives them a good flavor. You don't even taste the tomato/grape! I also like PB and banana together! I'll have to try the other two! Thanks for stopping by! ~Angela
DeleteI find peanut butter and jelly a disgusting combo. Must be because I am not American! I don't eat PB, but eat almond butter (not with jelly). I do put jelly on pancakes, however.
ReplyDeleteLOL! I never really thought of PB&J as an American thing, but I suppose it is! I also love almond butter--well, really any nut butter! I'll have to try jelly on pancakes. :) ~Angela
DeleteTomato on eggs sounds pretty normal to me....and peanut butter flavored ice cream is available in stores.
ReplyDeleteThe jelly and ketchup (catsup? is there a difference?) is not something I would think of, but a lot of people like that sweet and spicy flavor combination.
Cheese on apple pie would not be my first choice.
But what do I know?
Lol! Thanks for visiting! Yep, catsup and ketchup are the same thing. :) I mix it into the baked beans for a sweetness. You can't individually taste the ketchup and jelly after the beans are hot! Happy A-to-Z 2013! ~Angela, Whole Foods Living, http://www.wholefoodsliving.blogspot.com/
DeleteI love unusual combos, and especially salty and sweet... I did my S for A-Z on that combo:
