Pumpkin + Chocolate = Eww!

Pumpkin this. Pumpkin that. I love pumpkin as much as anyone else, but when it comes to mixing this fall squash with chocolate--the madness has to stop!

Give me a dense pumpkin pie, fluffy pumpkin muffins, spicy pumpkin bars topped with cream cheese frosting and I'm a happy girl.

And since this blog is about healthy, whole foods, I will say I also love roasted cubes of pumpkin and a smooth, creamy pumpkin soup.

But, please don't mix chocolate and pumpkin. Those chocolate chip pumpkin pancakes on Pinterest make me want to gag.

Do you like pumpkin and chocolate together?

If you have a no-fail-to-die-for-chocolate-with-a-little-bit-of-pumpkin-in-it recipe to share, I might try it. Maybe. If it looks really tasty. Please comment below!

Uncommon Food Pairings

Some things just go together: peanut butter and jelly; chocolate and caramel; peas and carrots.

But, what about those weird little mixtures that we somehow stumble upon and learn to adore?

You know, the uncommon food pairings that make your friends and family look away each time you indulge.

I don't think my palate craves too many uncommon food pairings. But, I have received a few odd glances when I:

  • Melt cheddar cheese on apple pie
  • Add grape jelly and ketchup to homemade baked beans
  • Put chopped, fresh tomatoes on scrambled eggs
  • Mix peanut butter into vanilla ice cream
Do these sound weird to you? What uncommon food pairings do you enjoy?

Healthy Chocolate Treat

I crave chocolate-- a lot. Instead of reaching for a high calorie, preservative filled candy bar, my new addiction is a "chocolate-covered banana" smoothie! This sweet treat came about one morning when I realized I was out of vanilla soy milk and rice milk. Hey, chocolate for breakfast is ok, right?

Chocolate-Covered Banana Smoothie

2 1/2 cups of organic chocolate soy milk
2 peeled bananas, broken into chunks
1 cup ice cubes

Place bananas and milk in a blender. Blend until smooth.
Add ice cubes and blend until no ice chunks remain.
Pour into a tall glass and enjoy!

Until next time,
